This piece was inspired by the dark beauty of Victorian Mourning Jewelry. Mourning jewellery dates back to the 1600s but gained huge popularity in the 1800s when Queen Victoria mourned the death of her beloved Albert.
In the 1600s, the Georgians wore mourning jewellery with dark themes including skeletons, and coffins. The jewelry of this time was known as a reminder of the inevitability of life’s end, reminding people to live life to the full. The mourning jewellery of the Victorian era had softened as tokens of remembrance for the loved ones who had passed with symbols of grief like willows, angels, or clouds.
Abalone carved cameos are beautiful vintage pieces of jewelry, not easy to find and usually very expensive. While not Abalone, these beautiful coral and white cameo earrings are a very good imitation of the original. They are rich in color, and super lightweight to wear comfortably all day. Add in the gorgeous pearl cameo necklace and you have a vintage look with a modern twist.
“When virtue and modesty enlighten her charms, the lustre of a beautiful woman is brighter than the stars of heaven, and the influence of her power it is in vain to resist.”
(All of my jewelry is handmade and as such, no two are exactly the same. Items may appear slightly different in person. Each item is beautifully different.)
