Many people have had a love for Paris, and I am definitely one of them. There is, to me, nothing that says “France” more than the Eiffel Tower or the La Dame de Fer (the Iron Lady.)

It was the centerpiece of the 1889 World’s Fair, the date that marked the 100th anniversary of the French Revolution, and was established as a veritable technical feat. It’s interesting to me to note that in the beginning it was seen as the ugliest building in Paris. When construction of the tower began on the Champs de Mars, a group of 300 artists, sculptors, writers and architects sent a petition to the commissioner of the World’s Fair, pleading him to halt construction of the “ridiculous tower” that would dominate Paris like a “gigantic black smokestack. It’s a good thing that the commissioner didn’t listen and it soon became the symbol of the city.

Wear these earrings and carry some of the beauty of France with you, and know that even things that are once seen as ugly can become one of the most beautiful in the world.
