The Jacobite rising of 1745, also known as the Forty-five Rebellion or simply the ’45, was interesting to read about. I hadn’t heard about it and was only familiar with the saga of Mary Queen of Scots, who came along almost 100 years after the rebellion. The rising was an attempt by Charles Edward Stuart (Bonnie Prince Charlie) to regain the British throne for his father, James Francis Edward Stuart. It took place during the War of the Austrian Succession when most of the British Army was fighting in  Europe and proved to be the last in a series of revolts that began in 1689.

Though it didn’t end the way that the rebels would have wished, I feel the echo of the bravery of those rebels through the ages and salute their heroism.

I hope that you will capture some of the spirit of those long-ago rebellious Jacobites as you wear these earrings.

“Ye Jacobites by name, give an ear, give an ear
Ye Jacobites by name give an ear
Ye Jacobites by name
Your faults I will proclaim
Your doctrines I maun blame
You shall hear, you shall hear.”
-Robert Burns

(*Glass cabochon charms are water resistant but not waterproof, make sure you don’t immerse the earrings in water!)
