According to Dictionary.com a Sassenach is ” a typical Englishman or something considered typical of England often used disparagingly by Scots and Irish.”

The word, Sassenach, it comes from the Scottish Gaelic word sasunnach, literally meaning ‘Saxon’, and originally used by Gaelic speakers to refer to non-Gaelic speaking Scottish Lowlanders. In modern Scotland, however, the term has become sassenach, meaning something or someone English.

If you are like me, you became familiar with this word while reading and watching the Outlander series. When Jamie calls Claire a Sassenach, he is pointing out that she is English and a foreigner. He means it as an affectionate term, but that is not always the case. I have grown quite fond of using the word Sassenach, this may be why I have so many jewelry pieces with Sassenach

When you wear this pendant, you will truly be a Sassenach too!

“Put on a kilt and call me Sassenach.”

(*Glass cabochon charms are water resistant but not waterproof, make sure you don’t immerse them in water!)
